This is the sequel to The End which detailed the climactic battle between Gosse’ Gentlemen and the Black Freighter. This explains what happened next.
For those that are not fans of the 7th Sea storyline, the CCG in particular, may not know all of the backstory to this one. Basically, Phillip Gosse is a famous and honorable pirate who retired to an island paradise named Utopia years ago, but recently returned to the sea. Captain Méchant Necros, an old foe that he killed back in the day, returned as well seeking vengeance on the Black Freighter, an undead monstrosity of a ship. However, Necros’ focus is not on killing Gosse, but on making him suffer. He’s already killed Gosse’ nephew and forced the young man to serve on the ship, but Gosse suspected that the next target was his daughter Melinda. This story details the final battle between Gosse and the Black Freighter. It should be noted that one of these two factions was to be eliminated from the game after the battle.
Two of the featured characters deserve special attention. Torvo Espada (Grim Sword) of the Gosse and Espera (Waiting) of the Corsairs were both featured in the story. The intention had been for more stories about these two, but only Espada’s were completed. Espera was an enslaved Castillian fire mage who fell in love with Dalia, one of his captors. When she died and joined the Black Freighter, he vowed to rescue her.
While Tracey Anvilin was not a member of Gosse’s Gentlemen, he did come to figure prominently in some of their stories later when he undertook the training of Torvo Espada.
